Mulu
Mulu
is a river basin surrounded by limestone cliffs
and deep cave systems in Gunung Mulu National Park.
cave network with boardwalk access and bat colonies
Gunung Mulu National Park covers a large forested area with rivers, limestone cliffs and extensive caves.
The cave system is the main focus with boardwalks and managed entrances that allow access to Deer Cave and Clearwater Cave. These caves contain large chambers, tunnels, underground streams and notable bat colonies that emerge in numbers at dusk.
Short walking trails run from the park headquarters and give access to riverbanks and forest edges. Common sightings include macaques, bearded pigs, squirrels, insects, frogs and a range of forest birds. The walking is generally on firm paths and can be done without a long trek.
Longer options include the Pinnacles route and the Headhunters Trail. The Pinnacles involves a boat transfer and a steep climb to view high limestone points. The Headhunters Trail uses river travel and forest paths to reach more remote sections of the park and can be used as an exit route toward Limbang.
