an unfathomable diversity of cultural experiences

In the world of safari, a lot of us are fundamentally unsociable. You don’t leave society behind, to go live and work in the wilderness for no reason.

Yet, over the years, we have all come to appreciate the pleasures of meeting and spending time with local people. The breadth and range of human culture is as endlessly fascinating as the diversity of the natural world.

All good safaris inherently contain elements of authentic culture, whether spending time with the local staff at a lodge or dropping in at a local village. These experiences can massively enhance the overall experience, delivering range and depth to a trip.

A primary type of cultural interaction is to meet with local people whose way of life is fundamentally different to our own.

Tribal cultures which still adhere to their traditional ways of life are obvious examples, such as the Maasai people of Tanzania, the Bushmen people of Botswana or the Himba people of Namibia.

Africa is packed with thousands of fascinating groups, from the Malays and Huguenots of the Cape to the Nubians on the Upper Nile.

In South America, we have the gaucho horsemen of Patagonia or the Quechua weavers of the high Andes, to name but two groups.

In India, there are so many diverse tribes, religions and cultures that it’s pointless to even start listing them. Of course, the Buddhist peoples of the Himalayas are also fascinating, as are the locals of tropical islands like the Maldives and Seychelles.

We can put together culturally-focused trips to just about anywhere. All you have to do is have a chat with us about the particular aspects that interest you.

Perhaps you want to slaughter a goat and cook it over a campfire. Or maybe you prefer to visit a women’s weaving cooperative. Or experience an unusual religious festival. There’s a huge range of options.
