Abai Jungle Lodge
Abai Jungle Lodge
is a remote riverside lodge deep
in the Kinabatangan rainforest.
a wildlife focused, simple stilted lodge
Abai Jungle Lodge is located on a quiet stretch of the lower Kinabatangan River in eastern Sabah, Malaysian Borneo.
Set on the riverbank beside the small community of Kampung Abai and surrounded by secondary rainforest, this is a genuinely roadless and relatively secluded option, reached only by boat from Sandakan. It sits well away from the busier Sukau area and from any visible oil palm, so the immediate feel is much more of being in the jungle proper.
Built on stilts and linked by boardwalks, the lodge is simple and functional rather than luxurious. The big strengths here are regular access to some of the quieter sections of the river, easy boardwalk access into the forest, and strong links with the local village and tree-planting projects.
Rooms
Guest accommodation at Abai Jungle Lodge is in around 30 timber rooms, spread across a series of two and three bedroom chalets set along raised boardwalks. Rooms are plainly furnished but comfortable.
All rooms come with an indoor bathroom, hot shower, ceiling fan and netted windows.
