is an area of primary rainforest in the Kabili Sepilok Forest Reserve.

Borneo’s most easily accessed reserve

The Kabili Sepilok Forest Reserve extends for more than 4,000 hectares and acts as a crucial habitat corridor for wildlife moving between the coastal lowlands and the interior forests.

A network of boardwalks and short forest trails allows access without the need for guided treks, and sightings of red leaf monkeys, flying squirrels, hornbills, and forest kingfishers are regular.

Sepilok contains several important wildlife and research centres within a short walking distance of one another.

The Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre is the main focus and provides visitors with the opportunity to observe semi wild orangutans as they move through the forest surrounding the feeding platforms. Next to this is the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, which focuses on the protection and rehabilitation of the world’s smallest bear.

Accommodation in the area consists mainly of small lodges located close to the sanctuary entrance or on the edge of the reserve. Most lodges include raised walkways, shaded verandas, and forest viewing decks where wildlife can often be seen at dawn and dusk. Power is reliable, road access is good, and visitor infrastructure is well established.
