Safari to Keetmanshoop
Keetmanshoop
is a relatively pleasant town
in the south of Namibia
an interesting history of German settlement and agriculture
The town of Keetmanshoop lies at the junction between the main north-south N1 highway and the N4 out to the coast at Luderitz.
Originally a Nama village on the Swartmodder River, the town was formally established when the Germans built a church here in 1866.
Once the railway arrived from the coast, the town became the worldwide centre for the production of karakul lambswool.
The main features of interest today are the quivertree forests and fossil beds which lie to the east of town.

There’s a reasonable number of decent mid-range accommodation options in the town.
However, when we have trips passing through here, we usually use one of the more interesting lodges in the Mariental, a little further north.
usually best to skip staying here and push on to Mariental
