is the capital and transport hub of Namibia

an unusually pleasant, approachable and hassle-free city

Windhoek is the capital of Namibia and the location of the main international airport, so most visitors pass through here at least once in their trip.

It is usually possible to connect through without having to overnight, but actually it is a rather relaxed and pleasant place to break a journey.

Windhoek International Airport lies in a rural location around 40 km east of the city.

The city is relatively hassle-free and has a nice laid-back atmosphere. There’s not a great deal to do here, but enough to spend a day exploring if you have some spare time.

Windhoek International Airport can be reached directly from Frankfurt in Germany, but most people come in via Johannesburg or Cape Town in South Africa.

If you are on a self-drive trip, you can collect your vehicle and drive into the city very easily. The roads are great and the capital is really very easily navigated.

Where to stay

The city contains a handful of really decent accommodation options, including large square hotels, historic boutique hotels and chic little guesthouses.
