Safari to Helmeringhausen
Helmeringhausen
is a scenic desert area
with a fabulous German castle
a really interesting and intimate backwater
Set in the south of Namibia, Helmeringhausen is a remote village with interesting historical ties.
The area is best known for the bizarre and unique Duwisib Castle. This impressive folly was built in 1908 by an eccentric German, Baron Von Wolf, who died in action in WW1. It is possible to stay at the adjoining farmstead.
To the north lie the Tiras Mountains and some of the best desert scenery in the country.
To the east of the road lies the awesome orange dune sea of the Namib.
Activities include nature drives, hiking and horse-riding in the surrounding deserts.
