Swakopmund
is a bizarrely Germanic town
on the coast of Namibia

options to explore the surrounding desert
Swakopmund is the main town on the Namibia Coast, squeezed between the searing desert dunes and the angry cold Atlantic.
This strangely appealing town has a distinctly German flavour, dating back to the Colonial Era.
There are loads of options for exploring the deserts and lagoons of the area.
Due to its central location, Swakopmund features in the vast majority of lower cost and self-drive trips around the country.
Spending a night or two in town can actually provide quite a nice break from the relentless desert experiences.
