Goliath Tented Camp
Goliath Tented Camp
is an incredibly authentic outpost
in the Mana Pools area
the most intense walking safari in Africa
Goliath Tented Camp is located in the Mana Pools area of northern Zimbabwe.
The camp is centred on a rudimentary tented lounge and outside dining area.
Guest accommodation is in just four simple tented Rooms, each with an indoor bathroom.
The camp is deliberately and unusually simple and outdoorsy. It is very important to Stretch that it only attracts the right kind of easy going guests who are heavily focused on the wildlife side, rather than on comfort and hospitality. Having said that, you really should not be too discomforted.
The camp is actually dismantled during the Nov-May green season and removed from the park, being restored to the same location in time for the next dry season.
Activities
Goliath Tented Camp offers the following expertly-guided activities …
- vehicle safari
- walking safari
- canoe safari
The camp is personally hosted and guided by Stretch Ferreira, an incredibly experienced guide who has been operating here in Mana Pools for over 25 years.
Stretch is famous for having close relationships with individual animals within the park, especially elephants, but also lions, leopards and even wild-dogs.
This unusual familiarity enables him to approach animals in an extraordinarily intimate and up close fashion, often walking guests to almost within touching distance. This simply does not happen in other locations.
People come from around the world specifically to be guided by Stretch.

Mana Pools is one of the most renowned safari areas in Africa, but remains relatively little-visited due to its awkward location.
The area only tends to be visited by serious safari travellers, who are prepared to jump through a few extra hoops to get here.
The usual stay duration is 3-5 nights in one camp, occasionally 5-8 nights split between two camps.
Seasonality
The best time to visit Hwange is during the May-Oct dry season, when the wildlife is focused around the waterholes and easy to find.
Within that period, May-Jul is pleasantly cool at night, but the animals may not yet be fully migrated back into water.
Towards the end of that period, Oct-Nov the wildlife should be at its strongest, but the weather is likely to be uncomfortably hot, especially at night. Bear in mind that most camps do not have air-conditioning.
Getting there
Mana Pools is usually accessed by light aircraft from Victoria Falls, Hwange or Harare.
It is also possible to drive in from Lusaka or Lower Zambezi, across the river in Zambia.
