Jun-Oct is the shoebill nesting season, but there are good reasons to visit in other months.
Getting there
Bangweulu and Kasanka are inconveniently located to combine with the more popular safari locations in Zambia.
The area can be reached by road from Lusaka in around ten hours.
It is also possible to charter a light aircraft from the South Luangwa area, that lies to the east.
If you enjoy a proper road trip, then it is possible to drive from South Luangwa to North Luangwa, then take the back tracks over to the main road, break the journey with a night or two at Shiwa Ngandu, continue to Bangweulu and Kasanka, then drive back into Lusaka.
the best time of year is the Jun-Oct dry season
