Set in the centre of Zambia, Lusaka is the capital of the country, but of little interest to most safari travellers, who mostly pass through the international airport without having to overnight.

Set in western Zambia, some 200 km north of Victoria Falls, Kafue is a very large and impressive but vastly under-utilised wildlife reserve, with guest accommodation in around a dozen camps and lodges, offering a good range of well-guided safari activities, notably including lots of lions and excellent motorboat safari. No giraffes.
