a polished and authentic safari experience

Olakira is a single mobile camp with two seasonal locations, both amongst light acacia woodland. From June to October it sits on the south side of the river in the Serengeti Mara area of northern Tanzania, in reach of the Mara River crossings; from December to March it moves to the Serengeti Southwest, close to Lake Ndutu, for the calving season.

The property is owned and operated by Asilia Africa, one of the leading safari companies in East Africa, the owners of which are committed to both an earthy, authentic, high quality approach to safari and a very strong conservation ethos.

The camp is centred on a pair of simple mess tents, containing modest lounge and dining areas, leading out to a campfire. One aspect we always appreciate is the amount of wildlife that can come into camp. Here you can expect to see wildlife around most of the day, whilst at night animals often pass right between the tents, including lions and elephants, which can be rather exciting.

This camp actually moves locations to track the migration through the park throughout the year, operating in each area only when the migration should be within range.

Rooms

Guest accommodation at Olakira is in around ten large tents, each with an indoor bathroom and an unusual elevated enclosed verandah, with beds that can be positioned to sleep under the open night sky. Tents are en-suite; the northern camp has plumbed hot-water showers, while the Ndutu camp uses traditional safari bucket showers.
