in the Serengeti Southwest area
the coolest base for migration calving
Serian Kusini Camp is located in the Serengeti Southwest area of northern Tanzania.
This property is part of the Serian Collection, a family of extremely authentic and high quality camps in the greater Serengeti area.
Set in a blissfully remote part of the Serengeti ecosystem, the camp is centred on a pair of simple mess tents with comfortable lounge and dining areas, leading out to a campfire area.
Animals in camp
One aspect we always appreciate is the amount of wildlife that can come into camp. Here you can expect to see wildlife around most of the day, whilst at night animals often pass right between the tents, including lions and elephants, which can be rather exciting.
Rooms
Guest accommodation at Serian Kusini Camp is in six tented units, each with a private indoor bathroom …
- Tent : x5
- Family Suite : x1 : with two bedrooms
The Family Suite has a small lounge and dining area, enabling it to operate completely independently of the rest of the camps, should you want absolute privacy.
Activities
Serian Kusini Camp provides the following guided activities, not all of which are usually included in the price …
- Vehicle safari
- Walking safari
- Bush meals
Very unusually, all of Alex Walker’s Serian camps offer private vehicles and guides to all groups of guests. From the moment you are met at the airstrip to the moment you leave, you will be guided by the same pair of guides, even when you move from one camp to the other. This greatly enhances the safari experience, since the guides can really get to know you and tune your safari to suit.
Short season
This camp actually moves locations to track the migration through the park throughout the year. It operates in this area only from the middle of December to the end of March, when the migration should be within range.

Map
Serengeti Southwest tends to feature in a very high proportion of trips during the Dec-Mar migration calving season, when it is the epicentre for wildlife viewing.
We also like to include it during the converse May-Nov dry season, when visitor numbers are very low, but there is still good resident wildlife in some areas.
Getting around
The majority of people visiting Serengeti Southwest do so as part of a guided overland safari, so they travel to their camp and around the area in their private vehicle.
A few people visit Serengeti Southwest in isolation, flying in and out of the airstrip at Ndutu. In this case they travel around the reserve with a vehicle and guide from their camp.
