Magashi Camp

Magashi Camp is located in the Akagera area of eastern Rwanda.

Set in a pretty lakeside position, the camp is centred on a large tented mess, with lounge and dining areas, leading out to extensive deck areas with broad views.

Guest accommodation at Magashi Camp is in eight lovely tented suites, reached by elevated walkways and raised up on decks, each with a large indoor bathroom to the rear and verandah to the front.

Most people coming in to see the gorillas in Rwanda subsequently head over to Serengeti in Tanzania for their savanna safari. By way of an alternative, Akagera is most commonly visited by experienced safari travellers who have already been to those areas.

Seasonality

The best time of year to visit Akagera is during the May-Sep winter dry season, when the grasses should die back, to allow easier wildlife viewing.

Getting around

Magashi Camp is usually accessed as part of a guided overland safari around the country, usually coming in from the capital Kigali, a journey of around 3 hours.
