Laikipia Wilderness
Laikipia Wilderness
is an owner-run outpost
in the Laikipia North area
unusually high quality safari guiding
Laikipia Wilderness Camp is located in the Laikipia North area of north-central Kenya.
This property is privately owned and operated by Steve Carey, who is originally from Zimbabwe. He has been living in this part of Laikipia since 2005, starting out by hosting the nearby Sosian (where we remember meeting him on his first month on the job). Steve is a proper Zimbabwean trained guide (widely recognised as being the best in Africa).
Laikipia Wilderness Camp blends canvas, wood, reed, and stone to create a rustic yet comfortable bush-camp feel. The central camp features a mess tent, lounge, with decks overlooking the Ewaso Narok river valley.
A rocky bluff with a swinging bench provides panoramic views, including Mount Kenya on clear days.
Rooms
Guest accommodation is in six Meru-style tents, including family options, sit on raised platforms with semi-open-air bathrooms and private verandas.
Activities
Laikipia Wilderness Camp provides the following guided activities, not all of which are necessarily included in the room rate …
- Vehicle safari
- Walking safari
- Hiking
- Rock climbing
- River tubing
- Cultural interaction
- Night vehicle safari
- Overnight bivouac camping
Laikipia Wilderness Camp has become known in recent years for its small population of black leopards. Safaris focused on one habituated individual are carefully managed, with the majority of the sightings limited to a few pre-booked priority vehicles.
