unusually high quality safari guiding

Laikipia Wilderness Camp is located in the Laikipia North area of north-central Kenya.

This property is privately owned and operated, often hosted and guided by Steve and Annabelle Carey, he originally from Zimbabwe, she from Scotland. The two of them have been together here in this part of Laikipia since 2005, starting out by hosting the nearby Sosian (where we remember meeting them in their first month on the job). Steve is a proper Zimbabwean trained guide (widely recognised as being the best in Africa) and Annabelle is a consummate hostess and logistics manager, as well as being a qualified archaeologist.

The camp is centred on a modest canvas mess tent, leading out to a campfire area.

Rooms

Guest accommodation at Laikipia Wilderness Camp is in just four large tented rooms, each with a private indoor bathroom.

Activities

Laikipia Wilderness Camp provides the following guided activities, not all of which are necessarily included in the room rate …

  • Vehicle safari
  • Walking safari

  • Night vehicle safari

Laikipia North tends to feature in trips where guests are specifically trying to experience more remote areas.

The usual stay duration is 3-4 nights in one lodge, occasionally 4-8 nights in two lodges.

Seasonality

The best time of year to visit Laikipia North is generally considered to be the Jun-Oct dry season, but there are very good reasons to visit during other months.

Getting there

Laikipia North is usually accessed by light aircraft from Nairobi.

The area is most commonly combined in trips with the Maasai Mara, far off to the southwest of the country.
