Borana Lodge

Borana Lodge is located on the Borana Conservancy of north central Kenya.

The ranch has been owned by the Dyer family since pre-independence and it does feel very much like an owner-run estate. The atmosphere is intimate and relatively non-commercial, whilst also having the polish of a high-end facility.

Set on a gently sloping hillside, Borana Lodge is centred around a large main building that houses the lounge, dining area, and library, all with open fireplaces. From here, paths lead to a separate swimming pool area with shaded seating, views across the surrounding bush and Hyena Valley dam.

Guest accommodation at Borana Lodge is in eight stone-and-thatch cottages, all beautifully presented, each with an elegant inside bathroom.

Borana tends to feature in high end trips to Kenya, especially for guests who are keen on horse-riding.

Seasonality

The best time of year to visit Borana is generally considered to be the Jun-Oct dry season, but there are good reasons to visit during other months.

Getting around

Borana is usually accessed by light aircraft from Nairobi.

It is also possible to connect by road from lodges in Lewa, other parts of Laikipia and as far afield as Samburu and Mathews Range.
