Safari to Rubondo Island
Rubondo Island
is a very special retreat
on Lake Victoria
chimpanzees and forest elephants
Given it’s proximity to Serengeti, Rubondo Island is a ridiculously little-visited place, a fabulously intoxicating wilderness which can provide a wonderful change of gear from a savanna safari.
The island hosts an unusual range of wildlife, with forest species including chimpanzees and elephants, savanna species including giraffes and marine species including hippos and crocodiles.
Accommodation and access
The island has only one place to stay, the excellent Rubondo Island Camp, which is accessed by light aircraft direct from the airstrips in Serengeti and with onward connections to the international airport at Kigali in Rwanda (notably for people wanting to combine with gorillas).
Activities
Rubondo Island Camp provides the following guided activities, most of which are included in the room rate …
- Chimpanzee tracking
- Forest walks
- Hiking
- Motorboat safari
- Cultural interaction
