Travel to Barberton
Barberton
is an historic town
to the southwest of Kruger
dating back to the Victorian gold rush
Barberton is located in the Panorama area of South Africa.
This town was founded in 1881 by an English prospector Graham Barber, whose discoveries initiated a huge gold rush in the area.
Gold is still mined on a small scale in the vicinity and tours of the workings are a significant attraction.
The town is scenically located in a bowl of hills, amidst lush subtropical vegetation. It has considerable old world charm and is a world apart from the more heavily touristed areas around Hazyview to the north.
It’s conveniently situated for self-drivers heading between Kruger and KwaZulu Natal to the south, making for a decent one or two night stopover.
