Travel to Letaba
Letaba
is a verdant and scenic area
to the northwest of Kruger
appeals to repeat visitors to Kruger
Letaba is located in the Panorama area of South Africa.
The most northerly section of the Mpumalanga Drakensberg, Letaba is a beautiful well-watered upland area of verdant forests, plantations and fruit farms.
Centred around the town of Tzaneen down on the Lowveld, the area is great for hiking, mountain biking, quad-biking, river-rafting and horse-riding, as well as points of historic interest such as the old gold mining village of Haenertsburg.
The area is much less visited than similar mountain landscapes in the Panorama region further south and is all the better for it.
On self-drive trips Letaba tends to work best with Kruger North, or as a diversion off the main N1 highway between Johannesburg and the Zimbabwe border.

Kings Walden Guest House is the clear stand-out accommodation option in this area, a relatively upmarket and rather chic little owner-run establishment, set amongst the fertile foothills to the south of Tzaneen.
