Okavango Panhandle
The Panhandle
is a marginal part of the delta
rarely included in quality safaris

a pretty stretch of river, best suited to fishing and birding
The Okavango Panhandle Concession is located to the northwest of the Okavango Delta.
It is located where the Okavango River reaches a tectonic entry corridor before spreading out into the Okavango Delta.
The area is not a prime Okavango location, being on the fringes of the conservation areas, with the main road and a string of villages along the western side.
The river itself is pretty and suitable for gentle trips on houseboats, with a focus on fishing or bird-watching.
Map
The Okavango Panhandle area is most commonly visited by self-drivers who are traversing around the Okavango Delta to reach the northeast corner of Namibia.
The main reason we might consider this area for inclusion in a trip is to visit the famous rock-art sites of the Tsodilo Hills, but these days we more commonly do that as a day trip by helicopter from a camp in the western end of the Okavango Delta.
