Travel to Zululand

Zululand is located in the KwaZulu Natal region of South Africa.

Although Zululand actually extends across a much wider area, we have given the name to this relatively small patch of central KwaZulu Natal since it contains most of the lodges which are specifically themed to provide a ‘Zulu experience’.

Although there’s a good deal of attractive scenery here, most visitors find themselves simply passing through when travelling between more obvious locations like the Battlefields, the Drakensberg Mountains, the Phinda Reserve and the Elephant Coast.

Only those people with a specific interest in Zulu culture choose to stay overnight in this area.

Unfortunately the sad truth is that the type of cultural interaction here is not generally very authentic, certainly when compared with similar experiences widely encountered in other countries to the north.

That’s not to demean the Zulu people or their traditions in any way. The problem is simply that most of the lodges here are too large and too commercial to deliver any kind of intimate or genuine cultural experience.

As a result we presently have no recommended accommodation in the area.
