Mount Mulanje

Set in the southeast of Malawi, Mount Mulanje is a scenic upland area, containing some interesting multiple day hiking trails and attractive tea plantations. Guest accommodation is in a handful of historic properties from the Colonial Era, offering a chance to really relax, as well as experience a range of active and cultural activities.

Huntingdon House

Huntingdon House is set on the Satemwa Tea Estate in southern Malawi.

This 1934 house is the centrepiece of an historic tea plantation, owned by the Cathcart Kay family since 1923.

Guest accommodation is in just elegant five suites, starting with Mother's Room.

Planter's Room can be accommodate a family of four and has a private patio.

The Nursery can sleep up to three guests and also has a private patio.

Father's Room has one large bed and a large corner patio.

The Chapel has high ceilings, a very large bed and another nice private patio.

Activities include tea and coffee tours, mountain biking, hiking and trips to Mount Mujanje.

The main highlight here are tours of the Satemwa tea estate.

A late afternoon walk leads to sundowners at a scenic spot.

Majete and Lengwe

Set in the south of Malawi, Majete and Lengwe are two relatively small wildlife reserves, much rehabilitated in recent years and now offering the best chances of encountering large predators and rhinos in the country. Guest accommodation is in just one particularly good lodge.

Mkulumadzi Lodge

Mkulumadzi Lodge is located in the Majete area.

The lodge is centred on a thatched main building, leading out to a campfire and swimming pool.

Guest accommodation is in eight substantial Suite Rooms, including two Family Suites with two bedrooms.

Activities include vehicle safari, walking safari, motorboat safari, hides and village visits.

The primary activity is vehicle safari during daylight hours.

Walking safari is also offered and may include approaches onto elephants.

There are also opportunities for motorboat safari on the Shire River.

Liwonde

Set to the south of Lake Malawi, Liwonde is the country’s most attractive wildlife reserve, with gorgeous riverine scenery and a good range of wildlife. Guest accommodation is in a handful of decent lodges, offering a good range of wet and dry safari activities, notably including some very strong motorboat safari.

Mvuu Lodge

Mvuu Lodge is located in the Liwonde area of southern Malawi.

The lodge is centred on a pair of open-sided buildings under thatch, leading out to a swimming pool.

Guest accommodation is in eight Rooms ...

... three of which (6, 7 and 8) are of a different layout.

Activities include motorboat safari, vehicle safari, walking safari, village visits and mountain biking.

The primary activity is vehicle safari during daylight hours.

Walking safari is also offered, often including approaches onto elephants.

Perhaps the biggest highlight is the superb motorboat safari.

Village visits and cultural interaction can also be very rewarding.

Lake Malawi

Lake Malawi is a vast inland sea, renowned for its prolific endemic fish species. It contains some gorgeous tropical islands and is surrounded by pretty beaches. Guest accommodation is in a handful of high quality lodges, offering a wide range of marine, active and cultural activities.
