Livingstone

Set in the south of Zambia and home to the Victoria Falls, Livingstone is one of the most alluring locations in Africa, surprisingly pleasant and undeveloped. Guest accommodation is in around 20 diverse hotels and lodges, offering a very wide range of safari, active and cultural activities.

Thorntree River Lodge

Thorntree River Lodge is located in the Livingstone area.

The lodge is centred on a funky main building, leading out to a large swimming pool and jetty.

Guest accommodation is in twelve rather glamorous tented Suites. Two pairs can be combined to make Family Suites.

Activities include visits to the Victoria Falls, vehicle safari, motorboat safari, canoe safari and white-water rafting.

A visit to the falls themselves is surprisingly interesting and impressive.

Scenic flights over the falls can be done by helicopter, light aircraft or micro-light.

The are various high adrenaline options for bungee jumping, gorge swinging and zip-lining.

The gorge below the falls is one of the best locations in the world for white-water rafting.

Motorboat safari on the languid river above the falls can be surprisingly good for wildlife.

This is also a great location for canoeing, with the "Smoke that Thunders" beyond.

Some modest vehicle safari is available in various reserves in the area.

Walking safari is also possible in some locations.

South Luangwa Central

The central sector of South Luangwa is the most accessible and has the most accessible wildlife, especially during the Nov-May green season, but is also the most busy, with larger lodges and higher vehicle densities.

Puku Ridge

Puku Ridge is located in the South Luangwa Central area.

The lodge is centred on a main building with a wooden deck viewing platform.

Guest accommodation is in eight Rooms with indoor bathrooms, plunge pools & starbeds.

Activities are centred on vehicle safari and night vehicle safari, with lesser options for walking safari.

The primary activity is vehicle safari inside the national park.

Night vehicle is also permitted for a couple of hours after sundown.

Walking safari tends to focus more on the details of flora and lesser fauna.

South Luangwa North

The northern sector of South Luangwa is relatively remote and very strong for wildlife, with guest accommodation in a fine selection of intimate camps and offering a range of very strong dry safari activities.

Lion Camp

Lion Camp is located in the South Luangwa North area.

The camp is centred on a large open-sided 'chitenge', including a swimming pool.

... and two larger Deluxe Suites with outside bathtubs.

Activities include vehicle safari, night vehicle safari and walking safari.

Walking safari is also high on the agenda and may include deliberate approaches onto elephants and lions.

Liwonde

Set to the south of Lake Malawi, Liwonde is the country’s most attractive wildlife reserve, with gorgeous riverine scenery and a good range of wildlife. Guest accommodation is in a handful of decent lodges, offering a good range of wet and dry safari activities, notably including some very strong motorboat safari.

Kuthengo Camp

Kuthengo Camp is located in the Liwonde area of southern Malawi.

The camp is centred on a very simple tented mess, leading out to a campfire area.

Guest accommodation is in just four tented Suites, one of which is a larger Family Suite, all with air-conditioning.

Activities include motorboat safari, vehicle safari, walking safari, village visits and mountain biking.

The primary activity is vehicle safari during daylight hours.

Walking safari is also offered, often including approaches onto elephants.

Perhaps the biggest highlight is the superb motorboat safari.

Lake Malawi

Lake Malawi is a vast inland sea, renowned for its prolific endemic fish species. It contains some gorgeous tropical islands and is surrounded by pretty beaches. Guest accommodation is in a handful of high quality lodges, offering a wide range of marine, active and cultural activities.
