The capital of Kenya, Nairobi is a major city and the primary transport hub for East Africa. It's a typically hectic place, but with some pleasant quiet suburbs, a good range of hotels and some interesting activities, notably the famous giraffe and baby elephant sanctuaries.

Ololo Safari Lodge
Ololo Safari Lodge is located on the south side of Nairobi National Park.
Guest accommodation is in six rooms of various descriptions, one of which is a larger two bedroom Terrace Room ...
... plus a further seven lower-cost rooms in the Old Stable Block.
Activities include modest vehicle safaris into the national park, plus visits to the world famous David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage and the Langata Giraffe Sanctuary.
Some modest vehicle safari is possible inside Nairobi National Park.
A real highlight is a visit to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
The Langata Giraffe Sanctuary is also worth a visit.
Tsavo East
Set 260 km southeast of Nairobi, Tsavo East is a vast arid reserve, reasonably scenic in parts, but with naturally sparse desert wildlife. The southern part of the reserve is busy with budget traffic along the Nairobi-Mombasa road, but the north is much more remote and home to a fabulous elephant rescue and rehabilitation project.

The lodge is centred on a stylish thatched building.
Guest accommodation is in four tented rooms with outdoor bathrooms.
Activities are centred on the elephant project.
Visits are usually centred on the morning and afternoon feeds.
Amboseli
Set 150 km southeast of Nairobi, Amboseli is an iconic national park which is renowned for huge tusker elephants against a backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. Guest accommodation is in a wide range of properties, a handful of which are decent quality. There are major traffic and tonality issues in core areas.

Safari vehicle : Tsavo East to Amboseli

Tawi Lodge is located in the Amboseli area.
The lodge is centred on a thatched main building, leading out to a swimming pool area.
Guest accommodation is in just 12 Cottages with butler service.
Activities are centred on vehicle safari both on the conservancy and into the reserve, supplemented with walking safari, camel safari and cultural interactions.
The primary activity is vehicle safari in the private conservancy around camp.
It is also possible to do some limited walking safari ...
... and some gentle camel safari.
It is also possible to do vehicle safari on day trips into the main reserve.
Mara North
Set 200 km west of Nairobi, Mara North is an excellent private conservancy to the northeast of the main Maasai Mara reserve, with guest accommodation in a good range of camps and offering a wide range of safari and cultural activities.

Serian Mara Ngare Camp is located in the Mara North area.
The camp is centred on a tented mess, leading out to a campfire area.
Guest accommodation is in just four tented Rooms with indoor and outdoor bathrooms.
Activities include vehicle safari, walking safari, bush meals, cultural interaction and night vehicle safari.
The primary activity is vehicle safari during day and night.
The camp also offers high quality walking safari.
Visits to local Maasai villages are also possible.
