one of the very best plantation stays in Asia

Ceylon Tea Trails is located in the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka, within the Bogawantalawa Valley, part of the island’s famed tea-growing region.

The lodge is centred on a collection of five restored colonial-era tea planter bungalows, each with its own charm and gardens. Meals are served in elegant dining rooms or on the lawn, and afternoon tea is a daily ritual.

Each bungalow is surrounded by views of tea fields, forested hills and lakes. Guests often wake to the sight of mist rolling over the valley, and during the day, peacocks and other birds are regular visitors to the grounds.

A unique aspect of this set of properties is that you can walk between the bungalows along scenic tea trails, stopping for a meal or night at each.

Rooms

Guest accommodation is in individual suites within the five bungalows, Tientsin, Castlereagh, Summerville, Norwood and Dunkeld, each with between 4 and 6 rooms.

The rooms are furnished in classic colonial style, with four-poster beds, freestanding bathtubs, antique writing desks and fireplaces or heaters for the cooler evenings. Bathrooms are large and well equipped.

Each bungalow has its own dedicated staff including a butler and chef, providing a highly personalised experience.

Activities

Ceylon Tea Trails provides the following guided activities …

  • Guided tea estate walks
  • Tea factory visits and tastings

  • Kayaking (at Castlereagh Lake)
