... before returning down to Namche for our second night.
Just north of Namche, we split off the main Everest Trail and turn into the Gokyo Valley.
The village of Phortse is over the other side, with the Everest Trail heading off to the right.
Our next overnight is at the tiny village of Dole.
Next day we continue up the western flank of the Gokyo Valley ...
... to overnight at the settlement of Macchermo.
Continuing north from Macchermo, we look down on a tiny unnamed village.
In spring flowers cover the hillsides.
We pass the lesser lake on the way into Gokyo ...
... where we stay two nights.
Next day we undertake an acclimatisation trek up Gokyo Ri ...
Next morning we leave the main Gokyo Valley to climb eastward ...
... with a gradual ascent all the way ...
... until we hit our overnight, at the very small settlement of Thagnak.
From Thagnak we continue to climb up the side valley ...
... until we reach the Cho La Pass at 5420 metres (17800') ...
... after which we descend the eastern valley ...
... to reach the remote settlement of Dzongla.
Descending from Dzongla, we sight the dramatic Lake Dughla.
At the base of the valley we rejoin the main Everest Trail and turn north ...
... following the morraine of the famous Khumbu Glacier ...
... to reach our next overnight at the now rather more busy village of Lobuche.
Next day we continue north along the Khumbu Glacier ...
... to reach the highest overnight at Gorakshep.
In the afternoon we reach the highest point of our trek on Kala Pattar (5545m) ...
... from where there are great views of Mount Everest.
Early morning it is possible to hike up to Everest Base Camp.
After which we depart by helicopter ...
... usually flying directly back to the Kathmandu or Namo Buddha area.
