Travel to the Paternoster Coast
Paternoster Coast
lies on the Atlantic
north of Cape Town
coastal settlements and inland lagoons
The Paternoster Peninsula is located in the Western Cape region of South Africa.
Lying around 120 km north of Cape Town, this bleak but beautiful part of the coast, with its remote beaches backed by sleepy whitewashed fishing villages, has in recent years seen a good deal of development and locations do now have to be more carefully chosen.
The village of Paternoster probably remains the most attractive part, with some good beach-side accommodation and the pleasant Cape Columbine Nature Reserve.
To the north lies Velddrif, with some interesting inland options along the Berg River.
To the south the port of Saldanha is a rather ramshackle industrial port. Across the bay the town of Langebaan, once an important whaling station, is now mainly of interest for birding and watersports.
