Travel to Blyde Canyon Lower
Blyde Canyon Lower
is a scenic rural area
to the west of Kruger
an interesting animal rescue centre
Blyde Canyon Lower is located in the Panorama area of South Africa.
The area below the Mpumalanga Drakensberg mountains and the mouth of the Blyde River Canyon is a broad expanse of undulating Lowveld containing a mix of modest wildlife reserves and large commercial farms.
Although this is by no means a wilderness area, the mountain backdrop is extremely pretty.

The main reason to stay here is to break the road journey between the scenic drive through the Blyde Canyon Upper area to the west and the wildlife lodges of Kruger to the east.
Most self-drivers treat this as a single overnight stop, although there are activities in the area which might warrant a longer stop, notably ballooning and river rafting.
The most interesting place to stay is Moholoholo Forest Camp, a reasonably comfortable safari style property which offers modest guided walking safaris and has its own wild animal sanctuary.
