the historic eponymous wine estate
Boschendal is located in the Cape Winelands of South Africa.
This Boschendal area covers the broad valley between Stellenbosch to the southwest, Paarl to the north and Franschhoek to the east.
Although by absolute standards it’s a rather pleasant part of the world and although it is geographically at the heart of the winelands, somehow Boschendal does somehow feel like a bit of an in between area, neither here nor there.

The main reason to choose this as your base would be that you specifically want to stay at one of the handful of exceptional properties in this area, the famous old Boschendal Farm itself, or the lovely and now rather funky Babylonstoren.
Whilst most visitors to the winelands are undoubtedly better off staying in or around the village of Franschhoek, those real wine buffs who are intent on getting around a full range of wineries in all the different areas might ultimately find a base in this central area to be slightly more convenient.
