Travel to Phaplu
Phaplu
is a pleasant rural area,
historically a base for Everest

a great base for serious high-quality treks on Everest
Set in the southeast of Nepal, the lovely rural district around Phaplu may lie just south to the busy Everest area, but could not be more different in terms of visitor numbers.
Phaplu is a gorgeous rural retreat, with gentle cultural activities and mountain walks. It is usually connected to more remote Everest routes by helicopter.
Map
In the old days, this town used to lie on the overland route from the plains of India up to Everest. The Happy House has been used as a base by famous climbers, including Sir Edmund Hilary in 1953. The place remains a great place to stay, if you are planning a quality assault on the mountain, far from the madding crowds.
