Travel to Patan
Patan
is an impressive sacred city
in the suburbs of Kathmandu
a very photogenic historic centre
The city of Patan is set just 5km to the south of Kathmandu in central Nepal.
Although the place has almost been engulfed by the capital’s expanding suburbs, Patan (also known as Lalitpur) was historically a completely separate city, founded as early as 300 BC.
Set on elevated ground, Patan is separated from Kathmandu by the Bagmati River. It is centred on Patan Durbar Square, which is home to an impressive collection of temples, as well as the impressive Patan Museum.
