Travel to Namo Buddha
Namo Buddha
is a pleasant rural area
to the southeast of Kathmandu

a very sacred Buddhist temple
The rural village of Namo Buddha is located around 25 km (15 miles) southeast of Kathmandu in Nepal.
The area is best known for the ancient Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery.
According to legend, around 6000 years ago a local prince, Mahasatwo, found a tigress and her cubs starving to death in the forest and gave his body to them as a sacrifice. His bones were collected and a temple was erected to serve as a mausoleum.
Around 3500 years ago, Gautam Buddha arrived at the temple, was told the legend, walked three times around the grave and declared that he was the reincarnation of Mahasatwo. The village and the temple were subsequently given the name Namo Buddha and became a great place of pilgrimage.
As well as coming to see this famous shrine, the area is very pretty and exploring the local villages and landscape on foot is a real pleasure.
