Travel to Kinondo and Gazi
Kinondo and Gazi
is a relatively quiet area
south of the busy Diani Beach

a more authentic stretch of coastline
Kinondo and Gazi is a section of the southern Kenya Coast.
Travelling south from the busy Diani Beach area, the level of tourist development falls away sharply and the beaches of the Kinondo Peninsular feel blissfully remote by comparison, just a gorgeous stretch of white sand, backed by dirt tracks through pleasant traditional villages.
The plots along the back of the beach are mostly empty, with a few containing the holiday homes of up-country Kenyans and just a couple with small and upmarket beach lodges.
The stand-out option here is the relatively upmarket Kinondo Kwetu, with The Sands at Chale being another rather more commercial option.

It is interesting to note that, whilst the number of lodges in most areas has expanded dramatically over the decades, the choice of options on this stretch of the coast seems to have significantly reduced, which is strange given that it is arguably one of the most attractive spots.
