Set in the northwest corner of Zimbabwe, across the river from Zambia, Victoria Falls is one of the most alluring locations in Africa, surprisingly pleasant and undeveloped, with guest accommodation in around 20 diverse hotels and lodges, offering a very wide range of safari, cultural and adrenaline-based activities.

Batonka Guest Lodge is located in Victoria Falls town.
The lodge is centred on a very nice Colonial Era bungalow, leading out to a nice swimming pool.
Guest accommodation is in a total of 27 rooms ...
... some of which are arranged around the swimming pool.
The Flame Lily Wing is independent accommodation with 5 rooms, making it a good option for families or small groups.
Activities are centred on visits to the Victoria Falls, scenic flights, vehicle safari, motorboat safari, canoe safari and white-water rafting.
A visit to the falls themselves is surprisingly interesting and impressive.
Scenic flights over the falls can be done by helicopter, light aircraft or micro-light.
The are various high adrenaline options for bungee jumping, gorge swinging and zip-lining.
The gorge below the falls is one of the best locations in the world for white-water rafting.
Motorboat safari on the languid river above the falls can be surprisingly good for wildlife.
This is also a great location for canoeing, with the "Smoke that Thunders" beyond.
Some modest vehicle safari is available in various reserves in the area.
Walking safari is also possible in some locations.
Mana Pools
Set 460 km downstream of Victoria Falls, Mana Pools is a really impressive wilderness, particularly renowned for awesome safari guiding, wild-dogs, hardcore walking safari and intense canoe safari, with guest accommodation in a dozen largely earthy and authentic lodges and camps.

Goliath Tented Camp
Goliath Tented Camp is located in the Mana Pools area.
The camp is centred on a rudimentary tented lounge and outside dining area.
Guest accommodation is in just four simple tented Rooms with indoor bathrooms.
Activities are centred on expertly guided vehicle safari, walking safari and canoe safari.
The primary activity is vehicle safari inside the national park.
Serious walking safari is renowned for including deliberate approaches onto elephants and lions.
The area is also renowned for canoe safari out on the river.

Mana Canoe Trail
The journey starts at the western end of the reserve.
Day one starts with a briefing and short paddle to the first bivouac camp location.
Day two comprises a mix of walking and canoeing on the way to the second bivouac location.
Day three takes the same format, on the way downstream to the final bivouac location.
Hwange
Set just 130 km south of Victoria Falls, Hwange is the most popular wildlife reserve in Zimbabwe, renowned for the quality of its safari guiding, rich and varied wildlife, authentic walking safari and superb hides, with guest accommodation in around 25 largely earthy and authentic lodges and camps.

Matobo
Set 400 km southeast of Victoria Falls, Matobo is a small national park which encompasses the Matopos Hills, a dramatic landscape of rounded granite outcrops or kopjes. The area is best known for hiking, mountain-biking, rhino tracking, cultural interaction and the grave of Cecil Rhodes. Guest accommodation is in just a couple of decent camps.

Amalinda Lodge is located in the Matopos Hills area.
The lodge is centred on a cluster of thatched buildings amongst the boulders.
Guest accommodation is three Standard Rooms, three Family Rooms and three Suites.
There is a lovely swimming pool area at the top of the kopje ...
... with a spa facility alongside.
Activities are centred on vehicle safari, rhino tracking, hiking, birding, rock-art, mountain-biking, village visits and abseiling.
A major highlight here is rhino tracking by vehicle and on foot.
The area also contains some important Bushman rock-art sites.
The World's View Monument is the burial place of Cecil Rhodes and the Shangani Patrol.
