Arusha
Located in Tanzania North, Arusha is a significant and relatively pleasant town, the start point for safaris into the Serengeti region, with guest accommodation in a good range of largely rural lodges. Overnight stops are frequently needed here in order to make flight connections.

Arumeru Lodge is located in the Arusha area.
The lodge is centred on a substantial main building, leading out to a swimming pool garden.
Guest accommodation is in 20 rooms, arranged in pairs.
Activities include coffee tours, town tours, shopping, hiking, canoeing, mountain biking and day trips to Arusha National Park.
Tarangire
Located 200 km southeast of Serengeti, Tarangire is a solid safari area renowned for great baobab trees and prodigious herds of elephants. Guest accommodation is in around 20 camps and lodges, offering a good range of safari activities, notably including walking safari and night vehicle safari.

Ormatai Rocks is located in the Tarangire area.
The camp is centred on a separate thatched restaurant and bar.
Guest accommodation is in nine large tented Rooms with indoor bathrooms.
There is one family suite with two rooms connected by a large deck.
Activities are focused on daytime vehicle safari, with options for balloon safari, walking safari and modest night vehicle safari.
The primary activity is vehicle safari inside the national park during daylight hours.
Ngorongoro Karatu
Situated 10 km to the southeast of the Ngorongoro Crater, Karatu is an area of fabulous rural scenery centred on a busy agricultural town, with guest accommodation in some lovely farmhouse lodges, offering a wide range of cultural, active and safari experiences.

Adjacent to the main crater, Ngorongoro South is a little-visited upland area which contains some fabulous scenery, some interesting Maasai villages and a superb hiking trail down into Serengeti.

Ilmisigiyo Bivouac is located in the Ngorongoro South area.
The bivouac is simply comprised of dome tents with shares safari bathrooms.
The hike starts with the a steep early morning ascent.
Serengeti Southcentral
Serengeti Southcentral is one of the most magical of areas, with migration calving Dec-Mar, superb Maasai interaction, incredible palaeontology and just two rather cool mid-priced lodges.
Day 6

Olduvai Camp
Olduvai Camp is located in the Serengeti Southcentral area.
The camp is centred on two simple main buildings, with steps up to a fabulous viewing platform.
Guest accommodation is in 17 tented rooms with ensuite bathrooms.
Activities include vehicle safari, giraffe stalking, fossil hunting, palaeontological walks, cultural interaction with local Maasai people and superb sundowners.
The primary activity is vehicle safari, which can be epic during the Dec-Mar green season.
Walking safari with the local Maasai warriors is a year round pleasure.
The nearby Olduvai Gorge Museum is of huge palaeontological importance.
One particularly unusual diversion is a trip to the bizarre Shifting Sands.
Serengeti Grumeti
Serengeti Grumeti is a prime private safari area adjoining the main reserve, with great scenery, rich wildlife and a small collection of very high quality camps which are free to offer an unusually wide range of safari experiences.

The lodge is centred on a large main area, leading out to a swimming pool area.

Activities include vehicle safari, gentle walking safari with Maasai warriors, lovely bush meals, visits to local villages and modest night vehicle safari.
The primary activity is vehicle safari inside the reserve.
Some modest walking safari is also offered on the conservancy.
Unlike most of the Serengeti, night vehicle safari is also possible in this area.

Day 11

Empakai Crater Bivouac is located in the Ngorongoro North area.
The bivouac is simply comprised of dome tents with shares safari bathrooms.
The trek starts with the descent into the crater itself.
Day 12

Acacia Bivouac
Acacia Bivouac is located in the Ngorongoro North area.
The trek continues with the walk down from Empakai.
The bivouac is even simpler than the previous night.
The next day is the epic descent to Natron.
Lake Natron
Located 100 km east of Serengeti, Lake Natron is a surprisingly remote and magical area of stupendous Rift Valley scenery, with a good range of cultural, palaeontological and active experiences, notably the epic hike up the active volcano Oldonyo Lengai. Guest accommodation is in just a handful of simple camps.
Day 13 , 14

Lake Natron Camp
Ngare Sero Lake Natron Camp is located in the Lake Natron area.
The camp is centred on a large 'desert combat' style mess.
Guest accommodation is in 10 Luxury Tents with indoor bathrooms.
There is also the larger Lengai Suite.
Activites include the fabulous hike up the active volcano Ol Donyo Lengai, flamingos out on the lake, swimming in waterfalls, palaeontology and cultural interaction with the local Maasai people.
A major highlight is the tough hike to the summit of the active volcano Ol Donyo Lengai.
Lake Natron itself often covered in lesser flamingos.
There are also some remarkable fossil footprints imprinted in the lakeshore.
The Maasai village of Ngare Sero is modestly interesting.
There is also a rather cool hike up to a nearby waterfall.
