Set alongside the River Nile in southern Egypt, Luxor is the beating heart of this ancient land, home to some of the most spectacular archaeological sites from the New Kingdom, including the remarkable Valley of the Kings and the prestigious temples of Luxor and Karnak. The usual start location for cruises up river to Aswan.

Set above Lake Nasser in the deep south of Egypt, Abu Simbel is a rather nondescript town which is home to a pair of huge and enormously impressive temples. Built during the reign of the great pharaoh Ramesses II (1250 BC), they were famously relocated in 1968 to save them from the waters rising behind the Aswan High Dam.
