exclusive-use and intense guiding

Muddy Teak is located in the Hwange area of western Zimbabwe.

Perched by a natural waterhole, Muddy Teak offers complete privacy and flexibility for a group of up to around ten guests (expensive for up to three guests, cost effective for four, great value for five or more).

It is located just over a kilometre (about half a mile) from its parent lodge, Camp Hwange.

The camp unfolds beneath a canopy of teak trees and is arranged around raised timber decks leading to the main lounge, dining area, plunge pool and firepit, all overlooking the waterhole. Interiors reflect a relaxed elegance with canvas walls, indoor and outdoor showers and elevated decks open to wildlife views.

Animals in camp

Elephants, buffaloes, sables, impalas, giraffes and even lions regularly drink at the waterhole, visible from camp.

Rooms

Guest accommodation consists of four spacious tents …

Standard Tents : 3 : Solidly built canvas-and-timber structures raised on decks beside the waterhole. Each offers a king- or twin-sized bed, indoor/outdoor shower, private deck and waterhole views. USB charging, fans, and solar-powered lighting are provided.

Family Tent : 1 : Features two sleeping areas, a shared lounge and deck, plus a family-sized bathroom. Ideal for families or friends travelling together.

Activities are centred on vehicle safari, walking safari, hides and night vehicle safari.

Activities

Muddy Teak Camp specialises in personalised, flexible experiences tailored to your group.

Activities are centred on vehicle safari, walking safari, hides and night vehicle safari.

The Hwange area is reasonably close to the substantial international airport at Victoria Falls, making it easy and convenient to include it in safaris.

The usual stay duration is 3-7 nights, with longer stays often combining two lodges.

Seasonality

The best time to visit Hwange is during the May-Oct dry season, when the wildlife is focused around the waterholes and easy to find.

Within that period, May-Jul is pleasantly cool at night, but the animals may not yet be fully migrated back into water.

Towards the end of that period, Oct-Nov the wildlife should be at its strongest, but the weather is likely to be uncomfortably hot, especially at night. Bear in mind that most camps do not have air-conditioning.

Getting there

Hwange lies quite close to Victoria Falls and the journey between the two is usually done by means of a scheduled light aircraft hop, direct into the various bush airstrips.

It is also possible to transfer by road, a journey of 4-5 hours. It may even be possible to travel down by train.

Onward flight connections are available to Matusadona, Mana Pools and on to Gonarezhou. Onward road connections can be made to Matobo, Great Zimbabwe and Gonarezhou.
