a delightfully authentic safari experience

Nomad’s Serengeti Safari Camp is a mobile camp that moves to track the migration through the park, always positioned near the herds and close to an airstrip. It is run as two identical sister camps that leapfrog one another, so a camp is always open and correctly placed while the other is being moved ahead.

Across the year the camps track the migration from the southern plains around Lake Ndutu in the calving season, up through the central Moru area, into the western corridor, and on to the far north for the Mara River crossings, before heading south again.

The property is owned and operated by Nomad Tanzania, one of the leading safari companies in East Africa, the owners of which are committed to both an earthy, authentic, high quality approach to safari and a very strong conservation ethos.

This was actually the pioneering mobile camp here in the Serengeti, the first to follow the migration around the park, stopping in four or five different locations for a few weeks or months. The idea was first formulated by Mark and Milly Houldsworth around 1992, with their first camp pitched at Kogakuria kopje in 1993, and has been much imitated since.

The camp itself is centred on a pair of simple mess tents, containing modest lounge and dining areas, with a small library tent, leading out to a campfire. Here you can expect to see wildlife around most of the day, whilst at night animals often pass right between the tents, including lions and elephants, which can be rather exciting.

Rooms

Guest accommodation at each camp is in six Meru-style tents, including one family tent made up of two full en-suite tents joined by an adjoining living area. Each tent has a large double bed, or twins in the family tent, and is en-suite with a traditional safari bucket shower (hot water on demand) and a flushing eco-loo. A small private sitting area at the front of each tent looks out over the Serengeti.
