Kasane is a small border town which lies on the southern bank of the Chobe River, overlooking the wetlands of the Caprivi Strip.

It lies just west of the Kazungula Border post, the point at which the four countries of Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe all meet, presumably at a point in the middle of the river.

The town is home to a small but important international airport. Critically it also lies on the main safari routes from Windhoek and Maun to the Victoria Falls.

Virtually all travellers combining time in the Victoria Falls area with safari in Botswana will pass through Kasane, usually connecting in from the falls by road, before flying on from the airport to the various safari camps to the south.

The town is home to a cluster of lodges, some of which are much larger and more commercial than anything out in the bush in Botswana.

Staying here provides access to the famous Chobe Waterfront safari area (both by vehicle and motorboat), which is renowned for prodigious wildlife during the May-Oct dry season.

However, the levels of traffic along this stretch can make it far from a pure bush experience.

The Kasane area therefore tends to feature in low cost package trips and budget overland safaris heading south along the long sandy tracks through Chobe to Maun.

We very rarely include Kasane in trips. In fact, we generally try to avoid it like the plague.
