Travel to Haa
Haa
is a rarely visited valley,
a sensitive frontier area
the front hallway of Bhutan
Set in the extreme west of Bhutan, the Haa Valley is a pretty and relatively high altitude valley, known for its rural lodges and little-visited trekking trails.
It is accessed from the main Paro Valley over the famous Chele La pass, with its hundreds of prayer flags.
However, the Haa Valley is rarely included in trips. This is a sensitive border area, hosting a number of large army camps, which can detract from the sense of wilderness.
There is a definite sense of the Haa Valley being the front hallway of Bhutan, with the country getting deeper and more interesting as you travel east.
