The Highlands Route covers the scenic drive along the R26, which traverses the well-watered farmland fringing the north side of the Lesotho mountains.

The four main towns along this section are Clarens, Ficksburg, Clocolan and Ladybrand, with the Golden Gate National Park providing access to a section of the Drakensberg Mountains.
