Zanzibar White Sand Luxury Villas and Spa is located in the Paje area of Zanzibar Island.

This property is privately owned by French entrepreneur, Andre Miznik, who fell in love with Zanzibar after climbing Kilimanjaro in 2010.

The lodge is entered directly off the main road through modest gates, bringing you immediately into the vehicle turnaround area and the reception.

The public areas are small but rather elegant, with a restaurant and bar downstairs and a more relaxed snack restaurant terrace upstairs, from where there are views out over the main swimming pool and the network of pathways which weave through the lodge towards the ocean. To one side there is a pleasant little spa facility.

Guest accommodation at Zanzibar White Sand Luxury Villas and Spa is in a total of 19 rooms …

One Bedroom Standard Suites : x5 : Located on the front row, just back from the beach, with a private pool and separate lounge area.

Two Bedroom Family Suites : x5 : Located a little further back and have a private pool with a lounge building on one side and a separate two-storey building containing the bedrooms.

Five Bedroom Presidential Suite : x1 : Also set in the second row and has a wide range of private facilities in similar style to other rooms, but bigger.

Garden Villa Rooms : x4 : These four rooms are located further back on the plot, contained within one larger building. These used to be staff quarters, so they really are much smaller and simpler than the main suites, but still very nicely presented and a great way to get to stay at this otherwise rather pricey lodge : Room 1 : Deluxe Family Room, 42 square metres, for up to four adults in two bedrooms and one bathroom, with the possibility of adding one extra bed. : Room 2 : Superior Double Room, 22 square metres, for one or two adults. : Room 3 : Superior Family Room, 33 square metres, for up to four adults in two bedrooms and one bathroom : Room 4 : Prestige Double Suite, 42 square metres, for up to two adults, with the possibility of adding one extra bed, plus a large private garden and terrace.

Of all the diverse beach locations that can be added to a safari in East Africa, Zanzibar is by far the most popular and therefore tends to feature in a high proportion of trips.

The usual stay duration is 3-7 nights.

Seasonality

The climate on Zanzibar Island is tropical, with predominantly hot, humid and sunny conditions.

There is rain on most days of the year, usually taking the form of light showers. During the Nov-Dec and Mar-May rainy seasons these can turn into heavy and persistent downpours.

There can also be very strong winds during the May-Jun early dry season period.

The best times down on the coast are therefore considered to be Jul-Oct and Jan-Mar, when there is usually slightly less rain and wind.

Unfortunately these best periods happen to coincide with the two peak seasons for visitor traffic.

Getting around

The majority of visitors to Zanzibar Island arrive via the international airport just southeast of Stone Town.

People including Zanzibar at the front end of their trip may arrive into Dar es Salaam over on the mainland, from where it is a short hop by light aircraft to the island.

Once on the island it is usual to travel around by guided overland transfers. Self-drive is most definitely not recommended.
